MISS CONGO UK AT THE BEFFTA AWARDS 2011

Miss Congo UK was nominated for the BEFFTA Awards 2011 in the category of Best Beauty Pageant  and our former Queen Miss Amelia Lola (Miss Congo UK 2010) was also nominated in the category of Best Former Beauty Queen. But it was not our luck this time as Miss Ghana UK scooped the awards for the Best Beauty Pageant , however we can take courage from this because it was an achievement itself in being nominated taking to consideration that Miss Congo UK has only been running for 2 years.
We also manage to take some video footage and photos. Thanks to our management team Disk and Jockey Entertainment and the Disk and JockeyMedia.

Miss Congo UK 2011, a model who aspires to become a Mental Health Nurse

Jennifer Litanda Lutu wears the crown reserved for the most beautiful Congolese girl in the UK, fully aware of the responsibilities bestowed on the crown bearer.

Jennifer, 17, lives in South Acton (West) and studies Health and Social Care BTEC Level 2 at Tower Hamlet College. She says that she chose to study Health and Social Care because she loves caring for and helping the people in need. Jennifer would like to become a Mental Health Nurse.

Her dream is to go to her native Democratic Republic of Congo and help put things in order. She would like to help the homeless, get all the kids to school and also help people with health problems.
Jennifer is appealing to all Congolese who love their country to unite and come up with concrete plans to help the country overcome its major challenges.

While Jennifer enjoys all different types of food, her favourite foods are Congolese Ntaba and Kwanga, Ngai ngai, Pondu and steak.

Jennifer, who is also a dancer, says she chose to become a model because it is a dream she has always had since she was a child. She has been modelling for about a year.

Jennifer feels fulfilled to be a model because she has achieved one of her dreams in life.

Jennifer was crowned Miss Congo UK 2011 on 1st July 2011 in London.

“I was shocked, speechless and actually didn’t believe it. I thought they made a mistake. I didn’t expect to win to be honest,” she says.

Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK aims at raising awareness about sexual violence women of all ages undergo in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As the Miss Congo UK 2011, Jennifer has the role of raising awareness about the violence perpetuated against women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also helps raise funds for poor women and children back home, in addition to being a role model for the young Congolese in the UK.

Asked what are the qualities of her ideal man, Jennifer first laughs then composes herself: “He must be smart, handsome, know where he’s heading in life, financially stable, polite, tall, very tall and a believer in God.”
Her advice to those aspiring to become models is: “Make sure modelling is what you really need because if its only something you want you won’t take it seriously. Be yourself, feel free to speak your mind and be focused.”

Crisis In The Congo: Uncovering The Truth

Crisis in the Congo: Uncovering The Truth explores the role that the United States and its allies, Rwanda and Uganda, have played in triggering the greatest humanitarian crisis at the dawn of the 21st century. The film is a short version of a feature length production to be released in the near future. It locates the Congo crisis in a historical, social and political context. It unveils analysis and prescriptions by leading experts, practitioners, activists and intellectuals that are not normally available to the general public. The film is a call to conscience and action.

Millions of Congolese have lost their lives in a conflict that the United Nations describes as the deadliest in the world since World War Two. United States allies, Rwanda and Uganda, invaded in 1996 the Congo (then Zaire) and again in 1998, which triggered the enormous loss of lives, systemic sexual violence and rape, and widespread looting of Congo's spectacular natural wealth.

The ongoing conflict, instability, weak institutions, dependency and impoverishment in the Congo are a product of a 125 year tragic experience of enslavement, forced labor, colonial rule, assassinations, dictatorship, wars, external intervention and corrupt rule. Analysts in the film examine whether U.S. corporate and government policies that support strongmen and prioritize profit over the people have contributed to and exacerbated the tragic instability in the heart of Africa.

London set to host Miss Congo UK

Event to raise awareness about sexual violence Congolese women undergo

Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK 2011 will be held in London on 1st July at the luxurious IF Bar (Ilford). Twelve chosen contestants will fight it out for the title of Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK 2011.
It will be a night filled with music from all countries, dance and fashion.

Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK aims at raising awareness about sexual violence women of all ages undergo in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It was founded by Disk and Jockey Entertainment, a group managed by four young Congolese entrepreneurs: Francois Tshimpuki, Nadege Tshiobi, Reagan Panzu and Laku Pululu, with a young Ethiopian entrepreneur called Ebenezer Teferi, all from East London.
Disk and Jockey Entertainment decided to found the pageant to celebrate the beauty of Congolese women in the UK while at the same time appealing to the international community to act to stop violence against Congolese women back home.

The winner of Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK will not only get a chance of travelling back home but will also be a cultural ambassador of the Congolese community in the UK. She’ll have the responsibility of raising awareness on all the issues affecting Congolese women and help raise funds for projects fighting violence against women and supporting the victims.

Miss Congo Beauty Pageant UK 2011 will be held on the same day and at the same party to mark Congo’s 51 years of independence.
